FUE hair transplant scars

Fue hair transplant is a choice of people going for baldness treatment because of tiny FUE  scars. The strip surgery method, the scar after surgery is big and visible. These help patients to keep short hair or shave head after the treatment. Follicular unit extraction commonly known as FUE is a new method of hair restoration. In this method, follicles are removed individually from the scalp. These follicles are extracted from the scalp by using a small circular punch. With the help of punch,  surgeon makes tiny incisions on the scalp. These cuts are made to separate the follicles from surrounding tissue. After this, follicles are pulled out from the scalp by the surgeon one at a time. In traditional method of transplant known as follicular unit transplant, follicles are removed in the shape of a strip. Two to three thousand follicles can be removed with help of a single strip. Both of these transplant method leaves scarring in donor area of the scalp. FUE hair transplant scars are usually not visible as compared to FUT or strip surgical method.

In the year 2002, American hair transplant surgeon introduced FUE method to perform hair surgery. He was the first to use a punch that was 0.8 millimeter in size. This was much less size as compared to traditional punch that was of four millimeters. This punch was invented to give fewer scars to patients during the procedure. During the process, transplant surgeon uses a punch like instrument around each follicle. Follicle is then grabbed with forceps to hold a tight grip. A tiny needle is put in to make holes around the tissue, so that follicle can come out easily. This help is less bleeding and less scarring during the surgery. Many robotic devices such as ARTAS and neografs are introduced that are especially designed to harvest follicles during from the scalp. These also contribute in less scarring of the donor area.

After the surgery, small punctuated  scars are present on the scalp. These scars are less than one millimeter in size. These scars become white after a few days of healing. Thousand scars are remained on the scalp even after the treatment. No scarring in FUE procedure does not mean scar less, scar free and no scar after the treatment. This is impossible to have any surgery without scars. It means that there will be no linear scar as in strip surgery. FUE hair transplant scars are like pigmented freckles on the scalp. It is the most important advantage of having such kind of surgery that these scars are not visible. Follicular unit extraction is preferred over traditional FUT surgery due to the minimum scarring benefit. In FUT, after extracting strip, a wound is left there on the scalp. It is staples, stitched or stuttered by the surgeon with the help of stainless steel staples. After healing, a big linear scar is apparent on the scalp that is concealed by the hairs.Size and detect ability of FUE scars is dependent upon few factors. One is the depth and diameter of equipment used during surgery. Another factor is the skin quality and laxity of patient’s scalp. For example, those having tight skin can have more scarring than those having tight scalp. Length, color, size and texture of hair also affect the scarring.
